This chart from FactSet and YCharts shows the average daily return of the S&P 500 when the McDonald's McRib™ is on the menu and when it's not.
So investors might be feeling optimistic now that the Golden Arches has announced the McRib sandwich will be back in its restaurants starting November.
After all, the numbers speak for themselves: between 2010 and 2022, the average daily S&P 500 return when the McRib was available was double the return when it wasn't. And although it's almost certain there's no causal relationship, it could prove to be one of those psychological quirks that become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
