Finimize Live: Non-Fungible Tokens

almost 3 years ago2 mins

Hi, it’s Community Host Maia Monell here. On May 13th, 2021, I was joined by Everett Muzzy, head of content at Serotonin, to discuss non-fungible tokens (NFTs), how to make your first purchase, and what the future of the sector holds.

While NFTs have been around for several years, their recent hype leads us all wanting to learn more about this investing craze. Over 350 Finimizers tuned into this discussion to understand how these digital artworks operate and how our community of savvy investors can purchase their first NFTs.

Everett brought a compelling level of expertise and was able to clearly break down everything from where to purchase your first non-fungible to what companies we can look to invest in that will support the next wave of their success (think hardware and gaming, to name a few). Most importantly, Everett noted that we should think of these newer assets like traditional art, saying “purchase an NFT if you like it and you can afford it – it’s like buying art.”

Key takeaways:

  • NFTs are allowing us to value digital work in the way it deserves. To quote Everett, “digital creators are the vanguards and the victims of the internet.” This allows them to evolve and find success in a safe, trusted environment.
  • Buy an NFT that brings you joy. Never invest more than you’re willing to lose. Learn about the space and how these assets are being traded. Then purchase a piece that brings you more than just monetary value.
  • If you’re just getting started, look to well-known platforms to make it easy to see where artworks are and what’s coming up. Look at the content that they publish, too. The most notable platforms have a lot of literature on artists, curation, etc.
