In the final week before Christmas, investors will no doubt be watching for any developments on the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant and the passage of the US government’s planned spending package. With little of note on the calendar, here are the main events we’ll be monitoring:
Monday Earnings from Nike and Micron Technology.
Tuesday German consumer confidence data published. Earnings from General Mills, Factset, and BlackBerry.
Wednesday Earnings from Cintas, Paychex, and CarMax.
Thursday US releases data on home sales, durable goods orders, and personal spending – which will be scrutinized for signs of inflation. Japan publishes inflation numbers. UK announces consumer confidence data.
Friday Christmas Eve. US stock markets closed; European markets close at lunch time.
